The vision behind Living Hope Homes (LHH) was born in 2005 as one of Out of Africa Missions’ ministry focuses. The project exists to demonstrate God’s love for His people by building homes where families feel valued and safe. LHH’s goal is to see each home becoming a focal point in the community and a platform from which the Gospel can be further spread. Its aim is to provide a positive future for African families, whose present living environment is insufficient in meeting their basic human requirements.
Three local Pastors, Pastor Amos, from Faith Revival Ministries in Thembalethu, Pastor Bruce from Parkdene Baptist Church, and Rev. Intelijanie, a well known local retired Anglican Pastor, also share this vision and identify families in their respective communities who would best benefit from this project.
At present we are delighted to be moving ahead with the building of our homes, and with the continued support of sponsoring churches & businesses and of visiting building teams, such as L.I.F.T Northern Ireland (Labour In Faith and Trust), who work alongside our in-house OAM building team, we continue to strive towards reaching our goal of constructing two homes per month.
The following are the criteria used by our Pastoral team in identifying the families in need:
- The family must have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The family must be from a previously disadvantaged people group.
- The family must own an existing government RDP home or application registered and awaiting response. (To ensure they own the land we build on). The LHH Pastoral selection committee can also choose to build on local Church properties to accommodate families who are in immediate need. These properties will remain in the Church name and not the name of the family.
- The family must be involved in their local fellowship or one of OAMs' core ministries.
- The family must be identified by their Pastoral team, consisting of Pastors and Elders.
- The family must be willing for the home to be used as a means of outreach into their local community (e.g. cell/house groups, prayer meetings etc.)
- The family must agree to sign a legal document stating that they will not sell or lease the home within a designated five year period following receipt of the home.
- The family must agree to a continuing relationship between themselves and the supporting church / sponsor.
- The family must agree to regular meetings with an OAM Welfare Officer, who is interested in the wellbeing of the family and the home.
- The local churches involved must agree to support the project by providing volunteers to assist in the building of the homes for the families associated with their fellowship.
