Melvin is the head of the home and is married to Winifred, together they have 5 children, of which two are fostered. Both Melvin and Winifred are actively involved in the Baptist Church where they met several years ago.
Melvin (37) is a hardworking father that came to know the Lord as his personal Saviour at an early age. He is a real jack of all trades and hard worker. This shown through his involvement in various ministries, as well as being a counselour at church, the church secretary, deacon, and member of the building committee. He spends many hours visiting older people, the bedridden and the sick. When he's not busy at church he loves to watch television, especially motor races, working on cars and spoiling his family with his cooking talents. His birthday is on the 6th of February. Winifred Jansen Winifred (37) is a passinoate mother and homemaker. She is the Sunday School Superintendent, involved in the Women's Ministry and in the Usher Ministry. Currently she is employed by Life Community Service, where they provide food and the Word to approximately 2000 impoverished and starving children and families. Winifred celebrates her birthday on the 6th of June.
Marlin (19) is the eldest of the Jansen children. He has a grade 10 Certificate, but could not finish school due to financial complications. Shince then he hasn't stopped working inside and out of the church. Currently Marlin works as a cleaner in George, and at church he is involved in the Worship Team, Sunday School, the music and youth ministries, and one of his passions: playing the drums at church. His biggest dream is to complete Grade 12 and study in the computer industry.
Ashley-Kay (16) is a young food lover and currently completing her last year of school and Olympia Academic, a school that specializes in the hospitality industry. When Ashley-Kay completes school, she like to study to be a Chef at the local further education college in Outdshoorn. The family is already trying to raise funds for her registration, schooling and accomodation. Ashley made a committment to the Lord and is involved in the Youth and Sunday School Ministries. When she's not in front of the cooking pots, she listens to music and creates a taste for nice clothes, like any other girl of her age. Her birthday is on the 27th of May.
A natural born leader, with an angel voice is what describes Melissa (12) best. She is a grade 7 student at Parkdene Primary and would like to become a Computer Technician one day. Melissa has accepted the Lord as Saviour a few years ago and is happily serving Him at school as a Prefect. In church she's part of the Sunday School, Junior Choir, Junior Youth, Dance Group, and Junior Worship Team. That explains her hobbies: music, dance, computers, and nice clothes. Her birthday is on the 27th of December.
Elvin and Elvieno (6), the two foster children, joined the Jansen family when they were just one and half years old. When the Jansen's took them in they were underfed and had T.B. They had no sense of family, only a history of abuse and rejection, which initially made it difficult to raise them. Today they are two big and healthy lads attending Grade1 at a Xhosa School. They are quite active and energetic and very much loved by the Jansen's, a real blessing to the family. The boys are involved in Sunday School, Junior Youth and the Junior Choir. They too have the desire to be baptized. Look out for these two, as they both want to become famous wrestlers one day. But in the meantime, they spend their time dancing, singing and dressing up with nice cothes they never had before.
